Things to know

  • Over 200 scholarships are given to missionary kids each year by the CMSF.

  • Scholarship recipients must attend one of six colleges:

  • Those eligible for the scholarship are children of missionaries currently on or recently returned from the mission field in a country other than their own passport country and who have made significant financial sacrifices to serve the Lord.
  • Awards given range in amount and can be given for four years of a college education. Graduates who go on to medical school are eligible for further assistance.
  • Students who receive a scholarship are not restricted to a particular major or academic program.
  • Scholarship recipients are required to earn ½ of their annual room and board expense, maintain a reasonable GPA and live a faithful Christian life.
  • Students from some colleges will attend an annual scholarship banquet where they will be able to meet other scholarship recipients and members of the CMS Foundation staff.
  • Applications for the Fall term are due February 15. Award notices are sent out by April 1.

Eligibility Questions

Applicants must be able to answer "Yes" to the following questions to be considered for the scholarship:

  • Are you presently or has your family recently been Christian missionaries?
  • Has your family made specific financial sacrifices to follow the call to the mission field, impacting your ability to finance a college education?
  • Do you plan to attend one of the six eligible colleges? (see list on left)
  • Do you authorize your college to release all of your college admission application and financial aid documentation to the Christian Missionary Scholarship Foundation for consideration during the scholarship selection process? (confidential)
  • Do you plan to actively participate in and sacrifice for the financial support of your college education?
